June Ahn, PhD, is a professor at the University of California, Irvine School of Education, where he serves as Senior Associate Dean of Academic Personnel and holds a courtesy appointment in Informatics. He earned his doctorate in Urban Education Policy from the University of Southern California in 2010. Previously, he held academic appointments at New York University and the University of Maryland, where he directed the Human-Computer Interaction Lab.
Ahn's research explores educational technology, participatory design, human-computer interaction, and learning analytics, particularly how students, educators, and communities can participate in designing technologies intended to support their learning. He leads the Design & Partnership Lab and founded the Orange County Educational Advancement Network (OCEAN), which connects researchers and educational practitioners to address challenges in real learning environments.
Ahn's scholarship places emphasis on designing technologies with communities rather than simply implementing systems on their behalf. His research includes the design of a chatbot for college advising and the use of participatory design to support educational equity. His 2011 article examining the relationship between social networking and adolescent development is among his influential publications. As of 2025, his scholarship included 85 peer-reviewed articles and more than 5,300 citations.
